semester 2. design. inhabit 2. entry 1.

very interesting idea.

as im working with Meng, Dian and Jeffrey at the plaza at OGGB,
i had a need to integrate my design into the park like theme they created in second life.
instead of making snow and changing the temperature.
i thought about going into their 'season'
summer and spring.'
where the ice melts and turn into ice.
therefore this time im going to work with water.
I will continue to work with the element of surprise in my design.

semester 2. design. inhabit 1. second life entry 6.

the blocks and the lily leaves down at the bottome bobs up and down spontaneously.
their position on the ground are randomly placed as well.

These are my final A3s for this project.

semester 2. design. inhabit 1. second life entry 5.

final sculptie.
it is an abstract imitation of clouds from which snow will fall from.

it also acts as a snow emitter and a radiator panel.

snow falling.
with sculptie on top.

i changed some of the stepping blocks to lily pads to make it more 'lake like'
and also to blend in with the glass patches that Ria Silvershade is building next to me.

they are all going to be scripted to go up and down to create the element of surprise and it also continues through to the project on the stairs down to the basement of the oggb.

semester 2. design. inhabit 1. second life entry 4.

snowing in my space
=D

im currently building steps and intergrating my space into Dian's and Lisa/Jaime's.

on the way of building a sculptie in 3ds max.
it shall be a curved roof/emitting panel for snow to fall down.

semester 2. design.inhabit 1. second life entry 3.

a test of my snow script.
im also planning to put in some steps similar to my threshold steps leading down to the courtyard of the architecture building on the ice surface.
the purpose of adding steps on the ice is hopefully providing easier access for the students in a hurry to lectures.

im planning to build a sculptie for the panel that will emit the snow.

semester 2. design. inhabit 1. second life entry 2.

my developing idea...
i forgot to take snapshots of my previous concepts..
but the first one was ramps..
that are arranged like ribbons..
and flat steps..
similar to my threshold stairs.
my second concept is the hovering blue object..
only lowered tot he ground to trip people up..

my main philosophy is making people pause..
and making them more aware of their surroundings..
instead of concerntrating on where they are going..

after talking to judy today at design,
she told me that since everyone using the OGG building is in a hurry..
we would probably want to give them a pathway to follow through..
and to distract them i don't have to trip them up..
instead making the experience of walking though the space different for them..
she also suggested me looking into change of temperature..
to make people suddenly aware where they are.
so i decided to make my space a 'winter' space.
with ice surface so people would be more careful while going through the space.
and im planning to make snowing effect thoughout the pathway.
and also maybe small notice boards showing things of interest to make the crowd pause.

Judy also told our whole class about how the best music in a movie are usually music that you don't realise its playing..
but once u listen to it again,
you will remember that scene.
therefore
from what i got from this..
the best architecture does not have to be extremely obvious..
little things can also make an impact on someone's behaviour.

semester 2. design. inhabit 1. second life entry 1.

Inhabit 1 Brief:
Use your previous experience of threshold and the required reading to change a space in the Owen G. Glenn building through occupation by designing an intervention that challenges someone’s spatial ideas of the body and signal or bodily needs and heady idea.
What i interpret as changing someone's behaviour through architecture...
making the target audience move through the space differently...
similar to this video..
how the installed stairs make the audience go up the stairs instead of using the escalator..
