semester 2. design. inhabit 2. entry 1.

very interesting idea.

as im working with Meng, Dian and Jeffrey at the plaza at OGGB,
i had a need to integrate my design into the park like theme they created in second life.
instead of making snow and changing the temperature.
i thought about going into their 'season'
summer and spring.'
where the ice melts and turn into ice.
therefore this time im going to work with water.
I will continue to work with the element of surprise in my design.

semester 2. design. inhabit 1. second life entry 6.

the blocks and the lily leaves down at the bottome bobs up and down spontaneously.
their position on the ground are randomly placed as well.

These are my final A3s for this project.

semester 2. design. inhabit 1. second life entry 5.

final sculptie.
it is an abstract imitation of clouds from which snow will fall from.

it also acts as a snow emitter and a radiator panel.

snow falling.
with sculptie on top.

i changed some of the stepping blocks to lily pads to make it more 'lake like'
and also to blend in with the glass patches that Ria Silvershade is building next to me.

they are all going to be scripted to go up and down to create the element of surprise and it also continues through to the project on the stairs down to the basement of the oggb.

semester 2. design. inhabit 1. second life entry 4.

snowing in my space
=D

im currently building steps and intergrating my space into Dian's and Lisa/Jaime's.

on the way of building a sculptie in 3ds max.
it shall be a curved roof/emitting panel for snow to fall down.

semester 2. design.inhabit 1. second life entry 3.

a test of my snow script.
im also planning to put in some steps similar to my threshold steps leading down to the courtyard of the architecture building on the ice surface.
the purpose of adding steps on the ice is hopefully providing easier access for the students in a hurry to lectures.

im planning to build a sculptie for the panel that will emit the snow.

semester 2. design. inhabit 1. second life entry 2.

my developing idea...
i forgot to take snapshots of my previous concepts..
but the first one was ramps..
that are arranged like ribbons..
and flat steps..
similar to my threshold stairs.
my second concept is the hovering blue object..
only lowered tot he ground to trip people up..

my main philosophy is making people pause..
and making them more aware of their surroundings..
instead of concerntrating on where they are going..

after talking to judy today at design,
she told me that since everyone using the OGG building is in a hurry..
we would probably want to give them a pathway to follow through..
and to distract them i don't have to trip them up..
instead making the experience of walking though the space different for them..
she also suggested me looking into change of temperature..
to make people suddenly aware where they are.
so i decided to make my space a 'winter' space.
with ice surface so people would be more careful while going through the space.
and im planning to make snowing effect thoughout the pathway.
and also maybe small notice boards showing things of interest to make the crowd pause.

Judy also told our whole class about how the best music in a movie are usually music that you don't realise its playing..
but once u listen to it again,
you will remember that scene.
therefore
from what i got from this..
the best architecture does not have to be extremely obvious..
little things can also make an impact on someone's behaviour.

semester 2. design. inhabit 1. second life entry 1.

Inhabit 1 Brief:
Use your previous experience of threshold and the required reading to change a space in the Owen G. Glenn building through occupation by designing an intervention that challenges someone’s spatial ideas of the body and signal or bodily needs and heady idea.
What i interpret as changing someone's behaviour through architecture...
making the target audience move through the space differently...
similar to this video..
how the installed stairs make the audience go up the stairs instead of using the escalator..

second life. entry 8.

my rearranged office,
because teleport hub wasnt always so accurate,
i decided to move the  meeting room up(in the process deleted the teleport hub),
and rearranged the rooms so there are move levels.

doors are now all scripted.
the door leading to the office can be moved by clicking,
and it moves to the other end which blocks the access to main office,
therefore you have to click again to enter the office(and in the process closing the door behind them!)

the  meeting room door can be opened  or closed by typing 'meeting room' in chat.

the CEO office can be opened or closed by typing 'door' in chat.

second life. entry 7.

this is my overall office structure.
i have two storeys.
top storey being the main office.. main working space.
bottom being the meeting room and exhibition space.

im also thinking of adding in a toilet.
but not sure how to make it.
so ill leave it for later.

to get from top storey to bottom storey(and vice versa)
u can teleport using the teleport hub/objects i created within my office.

right now im trying to come up with an overall theme for my office,
hopefully influenced from my journals.

second life. entry 5.

the initial concept.
circles connected to make one big office.

2nd life. entry 4.

Houses (NZ)

is more residential based.
and is more general audience friendly.
it provides insight of architecture to general audience.
(articles about interesting homes across NZ)
also provides solutions to simple problems.
eg. storage solutions.
it contains innovative ideas to decorate your home.

interesting lights.

i really love the light on this counter.
might consider to make my reception of my office like this.

interesting solutions to storage.

solutions to space saving.

sketch on ideas i liked in the magazine.

2nd life. entry 3.

PTAH

architecture design art
interesting innovative ideas

'Appearing twice a year, PTAH tells of current events in research concerning to architectural heritage, and building conservation and protection measures. Hte journal hopes to open perspectives and outline new opportunities for more varied views on the build envioronment by providing information on both familiar and less-known subjects in architecture.'
-PTAH, 1:96

interesting solutions to a building.
i would like to build my office in an interesting shapes.
small objects connected together to make a relatively big building.

2nd life. entry 2

ARKITEKTUR DK

one of my three journals.
and also my favourite out of the three...
this journal looks for simple but elegant architecture and mostly consist of miminimalistic architecture.
it also provides a lot of innovative ideas throughtout the journal.
the unusual budge out of the building.. it breaks my idea of that my building must be perfect.

lots of small buildings joined together to make a whole building!
im planning to design something similar to this!
personally i like small things connected to make lots of things! like puzzles.
=]

garden on a roof. i quite like this idea as it is very economical
and is very good for the nature as well!~
^^

old building with an element of surprise in the middle.

simple yet elegant.

sketches. innovative ideas that i liked.

2nd life, entry 1

For my ARCHDRC project im required to build an office in secondlife
influenced by the journals im given.
my journals are:

* Arkitektur DK
*Houses(NZ)
*Ptah

For my experimental model,
and without any references..
i started building a space that was surrounded by a twisted circle,
and then objects floating around it to create a kind of playful space.
with a huge slide created by the twisted circle.
